Assistance Dogs

All taxis and private hire firms should take registered assistance dogs like guide dogs or hearing dogs– if a firm or driver refuses you remind them of their responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act.

Drivers can get exemptions from this on medical grounds only (such as asthma or extreme phobia), but they must apply for the expemtion and display the notice on their taxi window facing outwards.

The law does not allow for exemptions on religious grounds.

If service is still refused contact One Voice or the Equality & Human Rights Commission for further advice.
