Shopping and Access - City Centre
Access around the city centre is patchy.
Shop Mobility is a useful service to help some disabled people get around, and lease out motorised scooters and wheelchairs to registered members.
Dudley Street and its offshoots have a cobbled uneven central aisle, however there is a flatter surface at the sides.
Most shops now have a level entrance, however many of them have very narrow walkways and are difficult to get around.
You have the right to be able to use all the shops in the city centre. If you cannot because a shop is inaccessible, the shop must make reasonable adjustments – this may include things like coming around the (high) counter to serve you, allowing you to try on clothes at home, etc.

The facilities are staffed by two attendants and, in addition to modern toilet facilities, features:
A quiet area suitable for parents, including mothers who are breastfeeding

A shower facility
A free telephone link to City Direct and other council services
Access to the council’s website
A multi-media screen displaying council information
An integrated security system including CCTV.
