AGM

The One Voice Annual General Meeting took place at the Maltings daycentre on Saturday 14th July.

The day kicked off with a chairobics session run ny One Voice volunteer and fitness instructor Harj. This got everybody wide awake and full of beans so that they could come up with lots of ideas for the Disability Agenda workshop

In the workshop here people decided what their 5 main issues were for them as disabled people in each of the areas of Wolverhampton's Community Plan. We concentrated on Housing, safety, learning, economy, health and wellbeing, and green issues.

These lists of priorities and issues will be passed on to decision makers in the City.

One Voice intends to have public meetings on some of these issues, with decision makers, later in the year.

After the workshop, the officers presented their reports to the members and answered questions.

Then members then elected their new management group for the year.

The day ended with lunch, a prize draw, a dispay of disabled people's arts and crafts and a poetry reading by a disabled writer.

Here are some comments from the people who attended:

"I really enjoyed myself, and was in no way bored."

"Starting off with exercises was good"

"I liked talking about what is important to us"

"That was fun!"

Remember any disabled person or people interested in disability equality is welcome to any of our meetings - get yourself on the mailing list so you can find out when we have the next meeting!
